U.S. Congressman. He graduated from DePauw University, in 1905, from the law school of Columbia University New York City, in 1908, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in New York City. During World War I, he served as special counsel for the War Shipping Board and as a special representative of the Secretary of War in the European Theater. After the war, he engaged in agricultural pursuits on his farm at Pawling, New York, president of the board of education, Bronxville, New York and a trustee of DePauw University. In 1945, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-ninth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1959. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he retired to his farm and died at age 77 while on a trip to Florida.
