U.S. Congressman. Instructed in higher education by a private tutor, he was a clerk and assistant postmaster (1867-70), engaged in the banking business in 1870 and was president of the board of trustees of the Peekskill Military Academy. In 1901, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-seventh Congress, serving until 1903. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he again resumed in the banking business. He was president general of the Sons of the American Revolution (1906-07), a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1908, president of the New York State Bankers’ Association in 1913, president of the Westchester County National Bank and a member of the Westchester County Park Commission.
