Arthur Neukom Nehf was an outstanding baseball player at Terre Haute Wiley High School from 1906 to 1910 and Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose Hulman) from 1910 to 1914, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. During the 1911 season Nehf, a pitcher/first baseman batted .468, a Rose Poly record that stood until Matt Moore hit .485 during the 2003 season. He pitched in the Major Leagues from 1915 to 1929 (461 games) for the Boston Braves, New York Giants, Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs, retiring with a regular season record of 184-120 and 4-4 in World Series play. Highlites of his career included pitching 20 consecutive scoreless innings for the Boston Braves against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 1, 1918, only to lose 2-0 in the 21st and while a member of the New York Giants, he pitched a 4 hit, 1-0 shutout to defeat the New York Yankees in the final game of the 1921 World Series.
