Auto Race Car Driver. Known as "Uncle Louie", he was a nine time winner of the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. He, along with his brothers Joseph and Jerome (Jerry, Sr) had dreams of racing in the Indianapolis 500 with cars sponsored by the Coleman Front Drive Company. Those dreams were shattered in 1929 when Joe was killed in a practice accident and Coleman withdrew it's sponsorship. After Joe's death Jerry continued to race until 1936 when he retired to go into the automotive business and to raise a family. Louis Unser continued to race at Pikes Peak until 1967 when, after 37 starts he retired at the age of 71. His nephews, Jerry Unser, Bob Unser and Al Unser, would all go on to be champion auto race car drivers in their own right.
