Venezuelan Political Leader, two times President of Venezuela (1945-48 and 1959-64.) Following a stormy career as leader of radical student groups, he founded in 1935 the ORVE, which later became the party Acción Democrática. In 1945 placed in power by a military coup, declared the universal suffrage, instituted social reforms, and secured for his country the 50% of the profits of petroleum explotation. Forced into exile in 1948, he came back ten years later and was elected president. In 1973 he was awarded a lifetime Senate seat.
