Religious Figure. Irish theologian and part of the Restoration Movement along with his son Alexander. His father was first a Catholic and then became a member of the Church of England. His son Thomas did not choose to serve God that way. Thomas entered the Church of the Secession which is now known as the Presbyterian Church. The Secession Church's members were those who had rebelled against the Established Church of England. He gave numerous speeches and wrote much about religion in his native Northern Ireland and also when he settled in Bethany Virginia (Now known as Bethany West Virginia). After leaving the Presbyterian church over differences about communion and infant baptism, he and his son Alexander Campbell helped found the Christian church (Disciples of Christ), Christian Church & Church of Christ. He continued his work of preaching the gospel regularly until he was 83 years old and when he was unable to preach anymore he would travel to other churches and work to encourage the churches and the people who came to worship.
