Richard Jewell
Birth: Dec. 17, 1962
Virginia, USA
Death: Aug. 29, 2007
Woodbury
Meriwether County
Georgia, USA

Main figure in the 1996 Olympic Park bombing at the Atlanta Summer Olympic games. He was at first lauded as a hero for noticing the bomb, notifying police and then assisting in an evacuation until the bomb went off. Days later the FBI targeted him, incorrectly, as a suspect. He was later cleared of all wrong doing and was never charged. Jewell later became a law enforcement official in Georgia, and sued several media outlets for libel regarding the Olympic Park bombing case. On the 10th anniversary of the attack, he was heralded as a hero once again by Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue. (bio by: John Sheets)

Wishing you peace. You were an unsung hero. Thank you for your bravery in saving lives and so sorry that people caused you pain afterward telling lies. May you always rest in peace.
