Iraq War Medal of Honor Recipient. He distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism while on duty in Baghdad, Iraq, when an insurgent tossed a grenade into the Humvee he and four others were sitting in. While manning the gunner's hatch, McGinnis saw the device as it flew past him and down through the hatch before it lodged near the radio. Realizing he didn't have time to throw it out of the vehicle, he shouted a warning to the others before he threw himself on the grenade thereby saving the lives of the other individuals. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, in Schweinfurt, Germany. McGinnis is the fourth man awarded the nation's highest military honor for actions in Iraq. He was also the recipient of the Silver Star.
