Bluesman. Best known for his friendship with Piedmont blues king, Blind Boy Fuller, and his encounters with blues legends Rev. Gary Davis, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. In the 1930's he took up with Fuller and his music developed very much in the Fuller style. A world of an African American music and community emerges when his musical career took him to New York city where he recorded for Decca and Savoy records in the 30's and 40's. In the late 1940's he moved to Newark, New Jersey and made a solo record under the pseudonym "Little Boy Fuller". In the 1950s he moved back south and abandoned the blues for a gospel quartet. Back in North Carolina, he performed at house parties, juke joints, and tobacco warehouses until the early 1960's.
