Roman Catholci Saint. He came from a poor family and was sent to work for a wealthy landowner. He married Maria de la Cabeza, who also became a saint. He went to Mass every morning but because of this he was often late for work. Even though he was late his ploughing was always completed and his co-workers believed that they witnessed it being carried out by angels and so held Isidro with great respect. He was canonized in 1622 as part of a group of five important Spanish saints which, as well as himself, included Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Teresa of Avila, Saint Francis Xavier and Saint Phillip Neri. He is the patron of agricultural workers, labourers, livestock, and Madrid. His feast day is May 15.
