Spanish King Consort. Born Maria Fernando Francisco de Asis de Borbón, he was the husband of Queen Isabel II. Persistent rumor had it that Fernando, who was in fact homosexual, fathered few if any of the Spanish queen's children. The heir to the throne, who would eventually become Alfonso XII, was widely believed to be Isabel's child by a captain of the guard, Enrique Puig y Moltó.
