Roman Catholic Cardinal. A native of Borja, Vicente Casanova y Marzol entered seminary in Zaragoza, pursuing later his studies in Madrid and Valencia, from where he earned a licentiate in theology. Ordained priest in 1881, for years he served as parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo parish in Madrid until his appointment as bishop of the diocese of Almeria in 1907. Receiving his episcopal consecration on March 25 of the following year, he was promoted to the metropolitan see of Granada on March 7, 1925. Pope Pius XI created him cardinal in the consistory of March 30, 1925, along with the archbishop of Seville, receiving the title of Ss. Vitale, Valeria, Gervasio e Protasio in December. He passed suddenly away while attending the Second National Catechetical Congress in Zaragoza.
