Roman Catholic Cardinal. A native of Vignanello, Francesco Bracci entered seminary in Civita Castellana, later pursuing his studies at the University of Rome. Ordained priest in June 1903, he successively served as professor and later rector of the named seminary of Civita Castellana. Chancellor of the local diocesan curia and canon of the cathedral chapter, between 1914 and 1934 he served as a lawyer in the Sacred Roman Rota of which he served as auditor from 1934 until 1935. Appointed secretary of the Sacred Congregation for the Discipline of Sacraments on December 30, 1935, Bracci was named referendary prelate of the Supreme Tribunal of Apostolic Signature on January 23, 1926. Pope John XXIII created him cardinal deacon in his first consistory of December 15, 1958, with the deaconry of San Cesareo in Palatio. Elected archbishop of the titular see of Idassa, he received his episcopal consecration from the named Pope at the Patriarchal Lateran Basilica on April 19, 1962. Succumbing to a lengthy illness, Pope Paul VI who was at the time participating in Good Friday ceremonies, visited his residence to pay his respects on his way back to the Vatican.
