Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Drummer in Company C, 33rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Murfreesboro, Tennessee on December 5, 1864. His citation reads "In a charge, was among the first to reach a battery of the enemy and, with one or two others, mounted the artillery horses and took two guns into the Union lines". His Medal was awarded to him on February 7, 1866.
