Louis II de Bourbon (1337-1410) - Find a Grave Memorial

French nobility. In 1359 he held Reims against Eduard III of England and was later one of the nobles that went as hostage to England to be exchanged for King Jean II. He was released in 1369 and started reconquering the territories occupied by the english army. A peace treaty in 1374 stopped the fighting for some time and he went to Spain to fight against the Muslims there. After the death of King Charles V he was member of the council of regents that reigned France during the minority of Charles VI. In 1389 he launched a crusade against Tunis. He besieged the city for nearly a year but was unable to capture the city. He signed a peace treaty in which the Mahdias had to pay reparations to Genoa. When he returned to France he supported Louis of Orleans against the Jean of Burgundy. After the assassination of the Duke of Orleans he was superseded by the Duke of Burgundy. In 1371 he married Anne d'Auvergne who brought him the Auvergne and the county of Forez. She bore him four children, but he had several illegitimate children.
