Actor. Specialized in tough-guy roles in films such as "Detour." Neal made headlines in 1951 for sending actor Franchot Tone to the hospital after a fist-fight over the affections of starlet Barbara Payton. Unable to find regular work after the incident, he later became a landscape gardener in Palm Springs. In 1965 Neal again made headlines when he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of his third wife, Gail. He served six of a 1-to-15 year sentence and passed away at his home eight months after leaving prison.
