American songwriter of the "outsider" genre. Wild Man Fischer was discovered by Frank Zappa while Wild Man was wandering the streets of Los Angeles singing his unique brand of songs to passers-by for ten cents a song. Wild Man Fischer had lived with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder since he was a teenager. Although Wild Man had recorded three tracks under the name of "Larry Fisher" on a UCLA student project record album in May of 1968, his first commercial album, "An Evening with Wild Man Fischer," was released on the Bizarre Records label in 1969 with Frank Zappa's help. Wild Man Fischer and Frank Zappa remained close until Wild Man threw a jar at Moon Unit Zappa. Wild Man Fischer also was notable for being responsible for Rhino Records' first release, "Go To Rhino Records" in 1975. He then recorded the albums "Wildmania" in 1977, "Pronounced Normal" in 1981, "Nothing Scary" in 1983, and "The Fischer King" in 1999, and released the single "Don't Be A Singer"/"I Got A Camera"/"Do The Salvo" in 1981, all on the Rhino Records label.
