U.S. Congressman. He was a successful agricultural farmer and a member of the Rhode Island House of Assembly, for eleven years. In 1855, he was elected as a candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress and as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. After his term, he resumed his agricultural pursuits and was clerk of Newport County Rhode Island, until his death at age 60.
