Professional Football Player. Born Richard Smith "Bill" Hudson, he was an offensive tackle for both the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills of the American Football League from 1962 to 1967. He was a four year starting offensive lineman for Memphis State University before being selected in the second round of the 1961 AFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. He played for the Chargers for one year before being traded to the Buffalo Bills where he would star for the next five years. He was a part of their AFL Championship winning teams in 1964 and 1965 and was an AFL Eastern Division all-star in 1965. He retired after the 1967 season and was named to the Buffalo Bills Team of the 1960s Decade in 1970. After retirement, he returned to Paris, Tennessee and served as assistant and head coach of the Henry County High School Patriots football team and vice principal of the high school. He was also inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Henry County, Memphis State and the State of Tennessee.
