Composer. He wrote musical scores for the films "Gaslight" and "Ten Little Indians" among others. He was a prolific composer, although much of his music remained unpublished during his lifetime. In addition to film scores, he wrote for opera and ballet and also composed orchestral, choral, chamber, vocal and piano works. A long friendship with guitarist Andrés Segovia inspired him to write a large number of compositions for guitar. He was also a teacher and included among his pupils film composers John Williams, Henry Mancini, Andre Previn, and Scott Bradley.
