Sculptor. Resident in France from 1947 to 1969. For his early experiments he used wood, granite and sandstone, but from 1949 he worked mostly with iron. His iron sculptures have won international fame and can be seen at museums all over Europe and in South America. In the United States he is represented at the Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, and at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington. He also worked with reliefs and graphics. He was a professor in sculpture at Akademie der bildenden Künste, Munich from 1962 to 1981, and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen from 1976 to 1985.
