American actress best known at MGM for giving young Judy Garland competition over the attentions of Mickey Rooney in a couple of their famous let's-put-on-show musical films, this dimpled blond cream puff was first and foremost an acrobat dancer and contortionist. She was in a number of Broadway shows. By her late 20's her film career fell away after this and, following a stint in "Annie Get Your Gun" at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, retired from show business. After a bitter divorce she opened a chain of dancing and acrobatics schools in California and when they folded moved to Florida with her son and for a time worked in a card store. Not much was heard of her until she was tragically killed with her son in a car accident. She was 63.
