Roman Catholic Priest, Bishop of Salford. Born in Manchester, the son of Italian parents. Studied at St. Cuthbet's College in Ushaw and earned an MA degree from the University of London in 1873. Ordained into the priesthood in 1876. Began teaching at St. Bede's College in Manchester. Earned a doctorate in Oriental literature from the University of Louvain in 1884. Appointed Bishop of Salford on August 28, 1903, serving until his death on January 18, 1925.
