Governor of Nebraska. Born in Golden, Colorado, Frank Brenner Morrison received his education at Kansas State University, and later earned a law degree from the University of Nebraska. He began his professional career as a teacher, and was later a school superintendent in Farwell, Nebraska. He opened a private law practice in Stockville, Nebraska and in 1934 was elected as the Frontier County attorney. In 1960 he was elected to the first of three terms as Governor of Nebraska, and he served from January 5, 1961 until January 5, 1967. During Morrison’s administration, a plan for water conservation was devised, the state accounting system was restructured, a retirement system for state employees was created, and a statewide educational television system was developed. After leaving office Morrison became a consultant for the Agency for International Development in India. He also served on the Nebraska Social and Judicial Reform Committee in 1971. His last public office was as the Douglas County Public Defender, a position he held from 1971 to 1974. In 2001 he wrote his autobiography “One Man's Trip Through the 20th Century.” He is fondly remembered as the driving force behind the creation of the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument in Kearney, Nebraska. He died in McCook, Nebraska on April 19, 2004.
