Professional Football Player. Born in Crawford County, Ohio, Monnett graduated from the Bucyrus, Ohio, public school system. While at Bucyrus High School, he made a name for himself as stand out player on their football team, playing half back, kicker and back up quarterback. His versatility and his ability to cover numerous positions attracting the attention of college football scouts. Monnett continued his education at Michigan State University, where he also played the same positions for the Michigan State Spartans. After college, he was signed by the Green Bay Packers, playing half back, and kicker, for seasons 1933-1938. Monnett also filled the position of backup Quarter Back for the Packers. In 1934, he was the Packer's top scoring player. In 1938, his final season on the team, Monnett completing 31 of 57 passes for 465 yards and nine touchdowns and just four interceptions. His passer rating of 91.7 was the best in the NFL that season. He was inducted into the Green Bay Packer’s Hall of Fame in 1973. Choosing to leave following a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the championship Packers - Giants game that season, he left professional sports, returning to Bucyrus and becoming a civil engineer. He later enjoyed a career in heavy equipment sales for Dresser Industries. Monnett died at Galion, Ohio, in 1978.
