U.S. Congressman. Graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1884, he was a physician, hospital executive and member of the Council of Pittsburgh, (1886-87). In 1905, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1917. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was amember of the commission to the Philippine Islands, 1910 and a member of the Panama Canal Commission, 1912. He died at age 58 in a disaster at Knickerbocker Theater Washington, D.C.
