Blues Musician. The son of musician Jim Seals, who owned the Dipsy Doodle Club where Son Seals got his start in music, he began playing professionally in Arkansas at age 12, first on the drums and soon after, the guitar. He toured as a drummer with Earl Hooker and Albert King, moved to Chicago in 1971, and played regularly at the Expressway Lounge on the South Side. He recorded for Alligator Records and later for Telarc. He is considered by many to have helped reshape the Chicago blues, expanding on the traditional Mississippi Delta roots by incorporating hard-rock elements. He was a W.C. Handy Award winner, and was nominated for a Grammy.
