WILLIAM YARNELLE, 90, FOUNDER OF FIRM, IS DEAD.
William R. Yarnelle, 90, one of the community's formerly prominent business leaders, died at 11 o'clock Thursday in the home of his son, George W. Yarnelle at Caldwell Lake, near Claypool. The decedent had been in failing health for the last five years.
He was founder of the Yarnelle Lumber and Coal Company here, operated now by his son, James K. Yarnelle.
Born in Springfield, O., July 11, 1852, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Yarnelle, he resided in Nebraska, at Nokomis, Ill., and at Fort Wayne before coming to Wabash at the age of 25 to work as a bookkeeper in the Duck and Pressler Planing Mill and Lumber Yard. In 1904, Mr. Yarnelle bought the Duck-Pressler interest in the firm and established the Yarnelle Lumber and Coal Company, of which he served as proprietor until five years ago.
He was married to Miss Mildred Duck of Wabash during his residence in Fort Wayne. She preceded him in death in 1920.
Mr. Yarnelle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here, and for many years sang in the choir, and also belonged to the Masonic, Elks and K. of P. Lodges.
Besides the two sons, he is survived by five grandchildren.
The body was brought to the Jones Funeral Home Thursday afternoon. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
