Roman Catholic Pope. Born Giovanni Antonio Facchinetti in Bologna, Italy in 1519, he became Bishop of Nicastro, Calabria in 1560. He attended the Council of Trent in 1562. After moving to Rome and serving in a number of capacities, he became the Papal administrator during the reign of Pope Gregory XIV. Facchinetti became Pope on October 29, 1591 when he was in poor health and served for only two months. He died of natural causes following a severe cold caught while visiting churches in Rome.
