A US citizen, aged 50, Dr. Baker died in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after a short illness. He was head of the Baptist Mission School in that city.

He was the son of Marshall Devon Baker. He is survived by his widow, Mary Ella Hammond Baker (b Atlanta, GA: m 1914), his daughter, Elsie Lucille Baker (b 1916), and his son, Clifton Ayres Baker, Jr. (1924-2012), all of Rio de Janeiro.

He was also survived by his son, Herbert Marshall Baker, of New Orleans, Louisiana; and by his daughter, Margie Nora Baker, of Greensboro, North Carolina.
