1918 - 2013
❦ Early Life: Arva was born October 13, 1918, in Mountain Home, Duchesne County, Utah, a daughter of Arthur Lees Stott and Fannie Charlotte Day Stott. She grew up with ten brothers and a sister.
❦ Life's Work | Service | Interests: At age 25, Arva went on a date with Dixon Leone Jones and knew she was going to marry him "even if he didn't know it yet." They were married April 15, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, within two months of their first date. She could keep up with her seven strapping sons and shine next to her four gorgeous daughters. Of course, those 11 children kept her matriarch title going with blessings of 45 grandchildren and currently 72 great-grandchildren.
❦ She was master gardener, always provided shelter for her family, and never judged them for their mistakes. She loved walks with her grandchildren around the block, and giving insightful revelation to church members. Her wit kept the room on edge, waiting for the next inspiration or banter. Even her memory was superb; during her final month of life, she was able to recite "Papa's Letter", a dramatic reading learned at age 11.
❦ Arva adored food, particularly potato salad, but especially anything sweet. The family could always catch her licking her fingers after discovering what goodies were left on the dining room table, kitchen counter, or any grandchild's birthday party.
❦ Arva Elizabeth Stott Jones, award-winning gardener, ward matriarch, and attention-loving beauty, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013. She was 94.
❦ Family Message: "The family asks that in honor of Arva, everyone plant some flowers, hug and kiss a baby or enjoy a sweet discovery by sneaking your fingers in a container and giving them a little lick!"
