Davis was an equestrian rider for the circus. By 1852 he was one of the main attractions of a traveling circus. In 1859 Davis accepted a 12-month contract with the Hengler's Circuses in England. In December 1866 or January of 1867 his mother Julia received word that her son Davis had been killed in an accident falling from a horse while performing in St Petersburg Russia in November 1866. Since no records can be found for his burial, it is assumed Davis was buried in Russia. (Information courtesy of Dortha Steele)

"Note: Davis Richards Weaver was my Great Grandfather; died after a fall from a horse during a circus act doing a double somersault; His body was brought back to London, buried at same church where he was married, which is St. Anne Soho, Westminster, London, England."

The following article was glued to the inside cover of a Weaver cousin's family Bible in Pennsylvania, date and name of newspaper unknown, some of the print is worn off along the left margin: A sad accident occurred lately in Moscow, Russia, which resulted in the death of Davis Richards, an American circus-rider of considerable reputation. He was doing the Olympian act, as it is called, with another artist, on the backs of two horses. On getting _____ from the shoulders of his comrade, his foot slipped, and he fell upon his back upon _____ of one of the horses, and, ______ struck on the back of his head and ___ with such force as to at once paralyze his whole body. On being assisted, he seemed to be conscious of the gravity of his condition, and said, "I am a dead man - let me remain here _____ - send my love to my wife," and ___ed to speak. He was at once removed to his apartment, where he died in twenty-four hours. He leaves a widow with three children.
