Millwright's Funeral Services Are Held Saturday Afternoon
Hearing for Pat Herring, charged with the murder of Tom Crutchfield, Wright City, has been set for Thursday morning, L. E. Mifflin, McCurtain county attorney, said Saturday.
Crutchfield, a millwright for the Dierks Lumber & Coal Co., of Wright City, was allegedly stabbed with a knife by Herring in an argument about 6:30 Thursday night while they were involved in a poker game with two other men in a woods near the western county town.
The knife entered the left side of Crutchfield and killed him almost instantly.
Funeral services for the slain man were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Wright City Pentecostal church with Rev. Dunn, officiating.
Arrangements were made by the Wilson Funeral Home of Idabel. Burial was in the Wright City cemetery.
Crutchfield has lived in Wright City for 26 years. His wife died last October 6.
Survivors include three sons, Tom, Harvey and Eugene Crutchfield, all of Wright City; one step-son, Cleat Kellogg, Wright City; one step-daughter, Miss Jessie Kellogg, Norman, and one half-brother, Ed Crutchfield, Sand Springs.
Steve Buchanan, an officer at the mill and a special county deputy, arrested Herring after the slaying. Herring made no attempt to escape.
Crutchfield was a middle-aged man and so is Herring, who is a farmer.
J. D. Butler and Sy Jackson, county deputy sheriffs, and Mifflin, went to Wright City to get Herring.
