Mrs. Thelma Mae Philippi, age 88, of Wilmont Township, died on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Thelma was born April 6, 1912, in Ricketts, PA, daughter of the late Horace and Jenny IGNITA CARPENTER. Thelma was married to Carl Philippi, who predeceased her on Dec. 27, 1983. They resided in Wilmont most of their lives. Thelma worked for many years for the Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Co. in Mildred, from which she retired. In retirement she continued the family farm in Wilmont. Thelma was a member of the Moxie Community Church. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law; Hazel STROPE of Towanda, Joan and George HEATH of Mildred, Sally and Thomas MATLACK of Sarasota, Fl, Patricia and James BYERS of Southhampton, PA; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Earl CARPENTER and two sisters, Helen KNOWLES and Frances PHILIPPI. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Wilmont Grange Hall with he Rev. Howard D. CARR, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Terrytown Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St. Dushore.
