Harder, Irene Adelaide Theresa –May 4, 1918-April 19, 2014, passed away in Willow Lodge Home for Special Care, Tatamagouche. Irene was born in Halstock, England to English mother Jeanette Marner and Canadian father (Canadian Army Medical Corps) James Edwin McCormick. Irene moved to Canada as an infant , grew up in Ontario and later moved to British Columbia. There she met the love of her life, George, and his two children, Ron and Lynda, and married in 1954. Irene worked as a cosmetician serving the public and winning numerous awards, including a trip to Paris! She and George volunteered with enthusiasm in many communities in British Columbia, especially for many years with the Vernon Winter Carnival. After retiring to Victoria, B.C., Irene and George worked as tour escorts for seniors and travelled throughout North America and Europe. In October 2006 Irene and George moved to Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia where they would often be seen walking hand in hand. Irene was predeceased by infant brother, James and brother Ted. She is survived by brothers Clearance, Gene, Don, Ray, Ralph and sister Helen; daughter Lyn (David) Sutherland, Tatamagouche,; grandchildren Micah (Treva) Stewart, Tatamagouche; Nathan (Catherine Gaudreault) Stewart, Nelson, B.C.; Meghan (Tony) DeNicola, Tatamagouche; Ceilidh (Dan Vorstermanns) Sutherland, Halifax; great grand children Uma, Emerald, Bryn, Gage, Isis, Eden, Rowe and Tala. Also family in Victoria, B.C., step-son, Ron Harder, former daughter-in-law and friend, Vicky, grandson Shane Harder and great grandson Trent. Special thanks to Dr. Chris Moss, nurses and staff at the Willow Lodge, friends, Donna and Charlie Wisen and Donelda Lepper. Celebration of Irene’s life will be held on Sunday, April 27 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the home of Lyn and David Sutherland, 152 Marshall Road, West New Annan. Interment will be at a later date at Lockerby Memorial Cemetery, Tatamagouche. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (657-3288). Memorial donations can be made to the Willow Lodge.
