STERLING, Ill. — Charles “Chuck” Hooper, 89, of Sterling, formerly of Davenport and Bettendorf, died at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. Services in celebration of his life will be 1:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 4, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park, with military honors presented by Davenport American Legion Post 26.

Charles was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Champaign, Ill., and lived during his younger years in Pittsfield, Ill. He then moved to the Quad-Cities and attended Davenport High School and graduated from Rock Island High School. He later attended the University of Iowa and A.I.C. in Davenport.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Charles married Barbara Rollins on June 8, 1949, and they had four children. She preceded him in death in 1990.

Charles retired from John Deere in 1982 and then worked other jobs. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Bears and Bulls fan. He liked computer work, outside gardening, concerts, travel, sporting events and spending time with loved ones and pets.

He is survived by his children, Sherri (Sam) Moore of Davenport, Brett (Anie) Hooper of McKinney, Texas, and Theresa Hooper of Sterling, Ill., a special friend, Annie Waters of Sterling, Ill., and his dog, Jack. Chuck is also survived by eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and a son, Gregory.
