Johanna Rita "Joei" Smith, 68, of Indiana Township, passed peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at her home, in the company of family and loved ones. She was born July 14, 1947, a daughter of the late Margaret and Frank Nerone. Joei was a retired employee of the University of Pittsburgh and a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard Smith; children, Tracy Kapoor (Howard Roach), Roger (Wendy) Smith and Rick Smith (Tina Stufft); grandchildren, Raj, Nikhil, Maggie, Ajay Kapoor, Tyler, Caroline Smith and Howard Roach Jr.; as well as siblings, Roger (Helena) Nerone, Randy (Roberta) Nerone, Richard (Kathy) Nerone, Mary (Ronald) DiCarlo, Kathy Peters and Philip Nerone; and sister-in-law, Margie Nerone. She was preceded in death by siblings, Regan and Christine Nerone; and grandson, Quinn Smith.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS INC., 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire Street (freyvogelfuneralhome.com). Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Joei's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at St Joseph's Parish, 342 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215. The burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 718 Hazelwood Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217.
