Ruth H. B. Essick passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016. She was 94.

She was born Dec. 16, 1921 in Concord, Del. She was the daughter of the late John and Florence Hitchens.

She was the wife of the late Norman Bickel and Charles Essick; mother of Danielle MacNamara; grandmother of Russ Crouthamel, Denise (Crouthamel) Pollock and Sandra Crouthamel; and great grandmother of Christian Crouthamel, Dennis Pollock, Collin Pollock, Ashlee Pollock, Mackenzie Crouthamel, Patrick Crouthamel and Jack Crouthamel. She also is survived by her sister, Betty Phillips; nephews, Donald and Keith Hitchens; niece, Janet Mitchell; and great nieces, Lora Schuller and Dawn Parks.

Ruth graduated from Seaford High School and Beebe Nursing School. Ruth retired after many years as a nurse for the Bucks County Dept. of Health and she worked at Bucks County Credit Union. She was a resident of Brittany Pointe Estates and Chalfont.

Ruth was a member and past Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter Signet 129 and a life long member of Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church, 321 W. Butler Ave., New Britain, PA 18901.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday May 27, at the William R. May Funeral Home, 142 N. Main St., North Wales, PA 19454. The Eastern Star Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service. Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
