Barney Burl Sessions, age 88, of Vernal, passed away June 21, at his home surrounded by love ones.

He was born on July 13, 1927, in Whiterocks, to Alexander and Mary Erma Moosman Sessions. He grew up on his family’s farm on the Whiterocks Bench. Barney graduated from Uintah High School in 1947. He served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the South West Indian Mission. Following this mission, he served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Upon returning home, Barney met the love of his life and eternal companion, Lloy Bennett, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 16, 1953. They lived two years in Idaho and one year in Salt Lake City before returning to Vernal to make their home. After returning to Vernal, Barney went to work for the U.S. Postal Service for the next 28 years. Barney and Lloy lived a happy life focusing on each other and raising their family.

Barney was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served in many positions including overseer of the Bishop’s Warehouse, Ward Clerk, Stake Sunday School Board, Stake Young Men’s Board, Sunday School President, Ward Mission Leader, Gospel Essentials Teacher, High Priest Group Leader and Stake Sunday School Presidency. Barney and Lloy also served a two year Stake Mission.

Barney enjoyed yard work, gardening, following BYU football and the Utah Jazz and watching old western shows. He loved helping his children and grandchildren and was always there for them with whatever they needed. Some of his most cherished times were when he was with his family at the cabin on the mountain.

He is survived by his wife of Vernal; children: Lynn (Nancy) Sessions of Orem; Randy (Cherie) Sessions of Pleasant View; Lawona (Rob) Harrop of Vernal; David Sessions of Vernal; Glade (Jennifer) Sessions of Roosevelt; 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Eula (Duane) Price, Centerville; sister-in-law, Doris (Dean) Sessions, St. George.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Drell B. Sessions; brother, Dean Sessions; sister, LaRue Watkins; and brother-in-law, Bruce Watkins.

We wish to thank the nurses and aides at Good Shepard for their professional and personal care of our husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Vernal 9th Ward Chapel (200 West 250 North). Friends and family may call Friday evening at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and then on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.

Burial will be in Maeser Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion and Utah National Guard, under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
