WATERBURY — Sal Marangio, 95 years young, passed peacefully on June 21, 2016. He leaves his daughter, Bambi; son-in-law and Firefighter Kenny Pitts; and 3 loving grandchildren, Cody, Casey and Kendelle. He is also survived by siblings Joseph and Marie.

Poppy proudly served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Worked at Big Y as Deli manager for many years and was a lover of music and animals. After the passing of his wife, Julia, from Alzheimer's in 2014, Sal began a challenging Bucket list. Poppy rode a mechanical bull, a hot air balloon, a racecar, the Tower of Terror, The Wooden Warrior, met Dr. Oz, got flashed at Springer Show, modeled in a Hasbro ad and appeared in an insurance commercial. Poppy displayed a great attitude and zest for life.

Poppy's family is thankful to all who contributed to his life. Sal had always touched others in positive ways. May we all learn from him. In the end, he had open discussions with angels witnessed by family.

Services 10 a.m. July 2, at The Bible Church, Dwight St., Waterbury, followed by a Military Ceremony at the VA cemetery, Middletown at noon. Sal wished donations to animal rescues/shelters in honor of his devoted dog who is grieving him deeply.
