Richard Fredrick Kleinschmidt, age 74, of Plainfield, died Sunday, July 24, 2016, at his home.

Dick was born on October 2, 1941, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Fred and Alberta (Guether) Kleinschmidt. He was raised in rural Waverly, Iowa, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly and attended St. Paul Parochial School to the 8th grade and then the Waverly High School.

Dick worked for Jim's Standard Station for several years and in 1962, he went to work for Carnation/Nestle' in Waverly where he worked for thirty four years, retiring in 1996.

On April 12, 1970, Dick was united in marriage to Dianne Brocka at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vilmar, Iowa.

Dick was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly and Bremer County Pheasants Forever. Dick had a love of nature, planting food plots of sunflowers and corn for the wildlife that roams his property. His enjoyments included hunting, his hunting dogs, fishing and boating, where he would make several family fishing trips each year to Canada, taking his Ranger for a ride through nature, restoring his 8N Ford Tractor, and his morning routine of having coffee with friends at Hy Vee and then checking his property by driving trails he'd constructed, however, what Dick enjoyed most was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Dick's memory is honored by: his wife, Dianne Kleinschmidt of Plainfield; two children, Lisa (Larry) Borglum of Janesville and Rick (Kristi) Kleinschmidt of Plainfield; six grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Stark, Megan (Jared) Hartwig, Nicholas (friend Amanda Rustad) Borglum, and MJ (Cassie), Alex, and Erica Hulsing; five great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Jaelynn Stark, Hadley and Gracelyn Hulsing, and Mya May Hartwig, arrival expected in September.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Erickson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church, or Pheasants Forever of Bremer County
