Dr. George J. Lytton, 89, Lincoln, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. He was born at Wheatland, Ind., on June 6, 1915, the son of Ralph and Lorah (Bateman) Lytton. He had been a licensed psychiatrist in Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas, and had served on the staff of the Beatrice State Developmental Center from 1989-2004. His education included the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, M.D., 1943; internship at William J. Seymour Hospital, Eloise, Mich., March-December 1943, resident in psychiatry, Norfolk State Hospital, Norfolk, Neb., 1946-1948; and Fellow in Child Psychiatry, Mental Hygiene Clinic, Louisville, Ky., 1948-1950. He had served as a captain in the Medical Corps, AUS, 82nd Airborne, from January 1944 to January 1946. His employment included staff psychiatrist at the State Hospital, Norfolk; director of the Central Nebraska Mental Hygiene Clinic at Hastings, 1951-1954; director of the Department of child psychiatry, Greater Kansas City Mental Health Foundation, Kansas City, Mo., 1954-1960; private practice, Kansas City, Mo., 1960-1975; clinical director, Hastings Regional Center, Hastings, 1975-1985; chief of adolescent care service at the Lincoln Regional Center, 1985-1986; medical director of Rivendell in Nebraska, 1986-1988; contract employee with CompHealth, 1988-1989, before joining the staff of BSDC. He had also served as associate clinical professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Nebraska from 1976 to the present time. His medical society activities included the American Association of Psychiatric Clinics for Children; Editorial Board, Journal of Child Psychiatry; editor, Greater Kansas City Medical Bulletin; past president of the Jackson County Medical Society, Kansas City, Mo., the Missouri Academy of Psychiatry, the Western Missouri District Branch, APA, and the Adams County Medical Society in Hastings. His memberships included the American Academy of Child Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association, Jackson County Medical Society (Missouri), Nebraska Medical Association, Nebraska Psychiatric Association, and Lancaster County Medical Society. He was also actively involved in the communities he lived.

Survivors: wife, Vivian; sons, James and John; daughter, Barbara and husband Richard; sister, Ruth Donnelly of Calif.; two nephews; great-nephews and a great-niece.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M St., Lincoln, the Rev. C. Rex Bevins officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials designated to Lincoln South Rotary Club, c/o Joe Roberts, 4000 S. 36th St., Lincoln, NE 68506.
