ALBANY--Shirley Armstrong Gill, 80, of Albany, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Shirley was born on May 2, 1936 in Randolph County to Lester H. and Elander L. Davis (Hudson). She attended public schools in Winchester, and made her life there as a homemaker and mother of four children.

She was also a long time resident of Albany in her later years, where she enjoyed a quiet life at her country home. Shirley loved nature, working outdoors, and was an aivd gardener She adored animals, adopted numerous homeless pets, and was friend to many a forest creature, including several pet raccoons over the years. Though Shirley was shy, she loved to spend time on her porch with her grandchildren, close friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her sister, Ramona Eley; her children, Shauna Armstrong and Sherman Armstrong Jr.; her stepdaughters, Connie (Shane) Hawkins and Mindy (Darly) Maronic; two nieces; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jack Mckee; and her sons, Sheldon Armstrong and Sherwin Armstrong.

According to Shirley's wishes, there will be no services or visitation. Walker Funeral Home, Winchester, is in charge of arrangements and she will be laid to rest at Foutain Park Cemetery, also in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
