William "Bill" Douglas Massa, 92, of Orcutt, CA, passed away at his home on Nov. 30, 2016. He was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Santa Maria, CA, the son of William and Lena (Douglas) Massa.

Bill graduated from Santa Maria High School class of 1941 1/2. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Santa Maria Junior College, the USC School of Aeronautics, and earned his real estate license. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 1538, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and an Eagle Scout. He was an outstanding athlete and alumnus of Santa Maria's first semi-pro football team, the Redskins. Bill was a retiree of Union Oil Company, and as some would say, a local historian who, as a life-long resident of Old Orcutt, enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of the Santa Maria Valley with all who shared an interest.

Bill loved his friends as much as he loved his family. An afternoon at the Elks Lodge preparing and enjoying a Santa Maria Style BBQ, was always a day well lived.

Bill was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Bette Jones, of Taft, CA, and is survived by their twin sons, Mike and Rick Massa, and grandson, Travis Massa.

Graveside services will be held Dec. 23, 2016 at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of life will follow at the Orcutt Lions Club, 126 S. Broadway St. in Old Town Orcutt.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Neal Taylor Nature Center at Cachuma Lake.
