KELLEY, Eleanor Kathleen (née Shanahan) -
August 31, 1921 - December 24, 2016
We sadly announce the death of our
dear Mother at Toronto, December 24, 2016,
in her 96th year.
Daughter of James Edward Shanahan and
Eleanor Ellen (Sevigny) of Toronto,
dearly loved wife of the late
Harry B. Kelley of Barrie. Mom & Dad met
as students in Toronto, courted on the
tennis courts around St. Brigid's Parish,
married in Red Deer, AB.
During Dad's WWII military service and,
after the war, lived briefly in Toronto
and Brampton before moving to reside in
Barrie for forty years.
Eleanor was the greatly loved mother,
Predeceased by her daughters,
Marie (Kelley) Cluskey (the late Patrick),
Toronto, Colleen Harris, Barrie and by her
dear sister and brother-in-law,
Mary and Joseph Pickup, Toronto.
Grandma/Meema loved her grandchildren
wholeheartedly and will be greatly missed
by them: She is very fondly remembered.
Mom was a very kind-hearted and
generous person, always with a soft spot
for the less fortunate. Friends were always
welcome at our house and Mom and Dad
opened our home to a number of people
that needed a place to stay while they
re-organized their lives.
Mom was renowned for her baking and
often personal requests came in when
it was time for the church bake sales.
Mom's great love of family history.
Genealogy kept her busy and contributed
to the historical record of Simcoe County.
At 95 she was still missing her
favourite hobby - fishing.
Visitation will be at the
Paul O'Connor Funeral Home,
1939 Lawrence Avenue East, Toronto, ON M1R 2Y8,
on Friday, December 30 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm,
with a funeral mass on Saturday, December 31
at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church,
65 Amelia Street, Barrie, ON L4M 1M7.
Reception to follow at St. Mary's Church Hall.
Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Barrie, ON.
