RAPID CITY- Sister Margaret Mary Keogh, OSB, 95, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at St. Martin Priory Monastery.
Vigil Service will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 22, at St. Martin Monastery Chapel.
She was born to John and Catherine Keogh in Norden NE, she attended schools there and graduated from St Martins Academy in Sturgis.
She came to the convent in 1939 and became a novice in 1940 and given the name Sister Margaret Mary. She made her first profession as a Benedictine in 1941 and took final vows in 1944.
She was a graduate of ST John's McNamara School of Nursing in 1944 and worked as an RN there and at ST Josephs in Deadwood until 1952 at which time she went to ST Louis University and obtained her graduate degree in Nursing there.
She was education director at St John's McNamara Hospital from 1955 to 1964. In 1978 she went to St Thomas More College in Kentucky to start a nursing program.
She was elected prioress of ST Martin Monastery in 1981 and served in that capacity until 1984 when she resigned due to her health but moved to Great Falls MT where she was a volunteer at Columbus Hospital.
She came back to ST Martin in 1998 and managed the monastary gift shop and alter bread sales.
She is survived by a sister, and many nieces and nephews and her Benedictine Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, , her brothers;John, George, James and Robert and a sister Mary Hughes.
