OAKES, Donald N. Age 82 of Seven Mile, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. He was born in Hamilton on June 19, 1932 to Charles and Orah (Wilson) Oakes. On January 19, 1957, in Liberty, Indiana, he married Rosalind Eileen Pyles and together they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage. Donald was in the United States Army from 1952-1954 and served overseas in the Korean Conflict. Donald was an ASE Certified Master Mechanic working for Miller Buick Hamilton as well as The Hamilton Bus Co. retiring in 1994. He was a lifelong member of the VFW 7670 Chuck Cain Post, American Legion 138, Moose Lodge Post 1291 and the Middletown DAV. Donald was given the privilege to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on October 22, 2013. He also volunteered at the Butler County Sheriff's Office for several years. Donald enjoyed camping with his family, fishing and his woodworking. He is survived by children Carla (Bob) Ledford, Diana (Doug) Williams, Pam (Tim) Stroup and Donnie (Cindy) Oakes; grandchildren Allen, Joshua, Melissa (Kevin), Matthew, Jeremy (Elizabeth), Rachel (Jeff), Jason (Misty), Sam, Tayler, Alex, Brandon, Chris (Jamie) and Jake; great grandchildren Megan, Sidney, Zac, Bayleigh, Brackston, Mason, Mylah, Jameson, Aiden, Addyson and one on the way, Nora Elaine; one brother Charles (Ruth) and two sisters Faye (Richard) and Judy (Chuck); numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sisters Jean, Janet, Betty, Ruthie and brother Wendell. Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 10 AM with Pastors Chris and Maggie Trumbull officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park with full VFW Honor Guard Service. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
