Alva "Jiggs" Underwood, 80, of 432 C N 17th St., Murphysboro, died Friday, Feb. 22, 1980, in the Jackson County Nursing Home after a long illness.
Mr. Underwood was a retired construction laborer. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Murphysboro and the Local 160 of the Laborers Union.
He was born May 9, 1899, in Murphysboro, to Frank and Etta Cooper Underwood. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sisters, Lola Imhoff of Murphysboro and Clara McMillian of Cutler; four brothers, Robert, Raymond and Kenneth Underwood, all of Murphysboro, and Ralph Underwood of Largo, Fla.
Burial will be in the Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro.
