Clarence H. Fowler, 95, of Salida died Nov. 29, 2013, at Columbine Manor Care Center in Salida.

He was born June 4, 1918, in Ninaview to Harvey and Laurabell (Amrine) Fowler.

Mr. Fowler spent most of his youth in Buena Vista.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 in the Pacific theater in the Philippines.

He married Bonnie J. Patrick in 1947.

The Fowlers moved to Salida in 1950.

Mr. Fowler worked in heavy construction for 25 years before he went to work with Chaffee County Roads District 2 as foreman in June 1967 until he retired in May 1987.

He loved hunting, fishing and simply being outdoors.

Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by his son, Michael Fowler; sisters Crystal, Ellen, Agnes, Margret and Rosemary; and brothers Elmer, Chester and George.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Kelly Jo Atwell of Poncha Springs; granddaughters, Katurah Kennedy, Vanesa Schoenewald (foster granddaughter) and Heather Hagan; great-grandchildren, Michael Atwell, Taya Atwell, Christopher Atwell (foster great-grandchild) and Rachel Jiminez; sister Ada Mampel; brothers Kenneth Fowler and Don Fowler; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be planned for Memorial Day weekend.
