Nick James Zografos, age 85, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday at home with family by his side. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lorraine (nee Gleatis). Dear father of James, Elene (Dr. George) Dangles, and Katherine. Proud grandfather of Maria, Lauren, and Stephanie. Dear brother of Bessie (late Dr. Steve) Papanos, late Anthony, uncle to a niece and nephews, and beloved cousins.
Nick was born in Detroit, Michigan. During the Depression, Nick, at the age of seven, went with his family to live in Greece, where they remained for the duration of World War II. Returning to the United States as a teenager, he completed his studies at Von Steuben High School in Chicago and went on to become a proud graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, as a civil engineer. Immediately upon graduation, Nick was inducted into the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to civilian life, Nick formed Peco and Associates, Inc., a consulting civil engineering firm, which, after sixty years, is still in existence today. Nick was also a life member of both the Order of Ahepa Chapter #323 and the Argo-Summit Masonic Lodge #1133.
Visitation Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 3 pm to 8 pm at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 West Archer Avenue (55th Street just west of Harlem), Summit, Illinois. Funeral Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Family and friends are kindly asked to proceed directly to Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 South Wolf Road, Westchester, Illinois for service at 11 am. Interment Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park, 9100 South Archer Avenue, Willow Springs, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Tommy's Kids Bereavement Program at St. Thomas Hospice, P.O. Box 130, Hinsdale, Illinois 60522-0130 would be appreciated. ''May his memory be eternal.''
